Code of Conduct Policy

1. Purpose:

This Code of Conduct Policy sets out the standards of behaviour expected of all individuals involved with Wilson’s Badminton Club. It exists to promote a safe, inclusive, respectful, and positive environment for everyone, particularly children and young people.

This Code supports the Club’s Safeguarding Policy and applies at all times during Club activities, whether on or off school premises.

2. Scope:

This Code of Conduct applies to:

  • Committee members.

  • Safeguarding and Welfare Officers.

  • Volunteers and coaches.

  • Adult members and players.

  • Parents, carers, and spectators.

  • Any individual representing or acting on behalf of the Club.

3. Core Principles:

All individuals are expected to:

  • Act in the best interests of children and young people at all times.

  • Treat everyone with dignity, respect, and fairness.

  • Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Behave in a manner that reflects positively on the Club.

  • Take responsibility for their actions and behaviour.

4. Safeguarding and Welfare Expectations:

All individuals must:

  • Familiarise themselves with and adhere to the Club’s Safeguarding Policy.

  • Follow the instructions and guidance of the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), Deputy DSL, and Welfare Officers.

  • Report any safeguarding concerns, disclosures, or suspicions promptly and appropriately.

  • Never promise confidentiality to a child or young person.

  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with children and young people at all times.

5. Appropriate Behaviour:

The following behaviours are expected:

  • Using appropriate language at all times.

  • Encouraging positive participation and sportsmanship.

  • Being punctual, prepared, and attentive during sessions.

  • Providing clear, constructive, and age-appropriate instruction.

  • Respecting personal space and privacy.

  • Ensuring physical contact is appropriate, necessary, and explained (e.g. for coaching or safety reasons).

6. Unacceptable Behaviour:

The following behaviours will not be tolerated:

  • Any form of abuse, harassment, bullying, or intimidation.

  • Discriminatory behaviour or language.

  • Inappropriate physical contact or behaviour.

  • Sexualised language, gestures, or conduct.

  • Use of alcohol, drugs, or being under the influence during Club activities.

  • Ignoring or dismissing safeguarding concerns.

  • Breach of confidentiality or data protection requirements.

7. Use of Technology and Communication:

All individuals must:

  • Use communication platforms responsibly and professionally.

  • Avoid private or secretive messaging with children or young people.

  • Ensure that any online communication is transparent, appropriate, and related to Club activities.

  • Follow the Club’s Online Safety and Photography guidance.

8. Photography and Media:

  • Images or videos of children and young people must only be taken in accordance with the Club’s Photography and Use of Images guidance.

  • Consent must be obtained where required.

  • Images must not be shared inappropriately or without permission.

9. Health and Safety:

All individuals must:

  • Follow the Club’s Health and Safety procedures.

  • Take reasonable care for their own safety and that of others.

  • Report hazards, accidents, or near-misses promptly.

10. Breaches of the Code of Conduct:

  • Any breach of this Code may result in action being taken by the Club.

  • Serious breaches, particularly those involving safeguarding, may result in suspension, removal from the Club, or referral to external agencies.

  • Allegations involving adults in positions of trust may be referred to the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) where appropriate.

11. Review and Acceptance:

This Code of Conduct will be reviewed annually or sooner if required.

All individuals involved with Wilson’s Badminton Club are expected to read, understand, and comply with this Code of Conduct.
